**“Should I stay or Should I Go” Broncos Edition.**
While we are in the information void known as the “offseason”, Zac Stevens of DNVR put out a list of current Broncos who are in the last year of their contracts. It’s damn near impossible to tell what will happen between now and next summer, but let’s give it a shot and project who is coming and who is staying in 2027.
Ben Powers – Powers has been a steady presence in the middle of the Broncos offensive line for the past few seasons. However, his play showed signs of slipping the past two years, with the team making no secret it was looking to move on from him this offseason before, surprisingly, guaranteeing his contract for this season.
Stayin’ or Goin’ – The Broncos' personnel moves at guard over the last few seasons make it appear that they are preparing for life without Powers sooner rather than later.
Evan Engram – Can you be considered a free-agent flop when you catch 50 balls as the fourth option in the offense? According to Broncos Country, that’s exactly how his 2025 was summed up. Engram is in the same boat as Powers in that the team has drafted three tight ends that are a better fit for Sean Payton’s offense than Engram, presumably.
Stayin’ or Goin’ – The offense needs tight ends to be capable blockers AND receivers, making Engram unlikely to be brought back.
Brandon Jones – Who knew that Jones was the missing piece on defense? Losing Jones to a pec injury seemingly had the ripple effect of bringing the Denver defense down as a whole. Still just 28, Jones does have enough value and production to think the team will make a play for him at the end of this year.
Stayin' or Goin' – Count this one as going either way, with equal odds that he could be brought back or let go, depending on what Jones would look to make on the open market.
Marvin Mims Jr.- According to reports, there are already preliminary talks in place to bring back Mims after this year. Stating the obvious, Mims is a fantastic kick/punt returner and a splash play option on offense. He has also been inconsistent and too much of a “gadget” player in other respects.
Stayin’ or Goin’ - Mims real value is in the return game. While he still has upside as a pass-catcher, it hasn’t been demonstrated enough for some to warrant precious free agency dollars.
Riley Moss – One of the most polarizing players on the team. Is he a liability or an underrated defender? Like all things, the truth lies somewhere in the middle. The biggest concerns for someone like Moss aren’t earning a 2nd contract with the team; it's how much his value will be estimated on the open market.
Stayin’ or Goin’ – This is a tough one, and it's going to boil down to how much coin Moss is worth. Moss is a fringe, number one-type corner, and those players usually cash in during free agency.
Ja’Quan McMillian – Solid outside cornerbacks are hard to find; slot corners are in their own special group. Enter McMillian, who has gone from undrafted afterthought to playmaker, who may be one of the emotional heartbeats on the team.
Stayin’ or Goin’ – The Broncos should heed the advice of John Malkovich and “pay that man his money”. No disrespect to Mims or Moss, but slot corners that can make plays in the pass and run game don’t grow on trees. McMillian should be a priority for re-signing.
NFL rosters and the money that comes with that create a constantly shifting scenario for all parties involved. While Denver chose to keep the band together for this season, that approach won’t work in 2027. Deciding who stays in orange and blue and who gets paid somewhere else will be a key issue when all is said and done this season.
