The Bourbon Belly Up
March 2nd – March 6th
This week, we are talking free agency and all the last-minute news coming from Zac Stevens at DNVR. Will Denver spend the big bucks to bring in a running back? Should we start saying our goodbyes to John Franklin-Myers? Is Evan Engram really on the way out? We cut through all the noise and get down to the straight facts in this week’s Belly Up!
Is John Franklin-Myers leaving a forgone conclusion?
To put a percentage on it, count like 90/10 that JFM will cash in during free-agency, the Titans have been coming up quite a bit, and leave Denver. People will ask why, and here is the short answer: money. The longer answer? Denver has lots of dollars invested in guys like Cooper, Bonitto, and Allen. Paying one more guy, while as good as he is, is probably too rich for Denver.
Who is Cade Otton??
With names like Dallas Goedert and Kyle Pitts out there, it was easy to think that Denver may go the big-name route to upgrade its tight end position from last year, although Evan Engram DID catch 50+ balls last year. What you wouldn’t expect is that the tight end spot that would be upgraded would be the blocked tight end, enter Otton. While Adam Trautman is serviceable, his limitations as a receiver and blocker came up at the end of last year, and Otton (59 catches, 600+ yards) is capable of doing work in both the passing and running game in 2026.
Stop trying to make “Breece Hall” a thing!
Despite playing for the woeful Jets, Hall has been one of the brighter spots for Gang Green. Despite the running back's best efforts, it doesn’t look like he's going anywhere anytime soon, with New York expected to franchise tag the running back if a new deal can’t be worked out for him. Combine with premier dollars needed to snag him, Denver utilizing a running back-by-committee approach, and the role not being suited for Hall, the Broncos would be well-served to keep their money in their pocket when it comes to Hall.
Just because it’s the offseason does not mean that Bourbon, Broncos, and No BS are resting until the start of next season. Listen up every Tuesday as we go into the most important topics of the day, giving you something to tide you over until this fall.
