Is Courtland Sutton on the way out? What is Davis Webb's new role and who should be in the Denver backfield next year?
**The Bourbon Belly Up**
Feb 16 – Feb 22
What is going on in Bronco Land now that that season is over? In short, nothing that demands wall-to-wall attention, but lots of things are moving behind the scenes. Here is a quick summary of what Broncos Country is talking about this week.
**Cortland being Cryptic??**
Someone should remind the veteran wideout that people take social media feeds as gospel. It would save him the trouble of having to backtrack when fans read into things incorrectly (maybe?). After a post and a recant of “chapters being closed,” led some to think Sutton may be on the outs, don’t be shocked if Sutton is seeing the writing on the wall about a deal OUT of Denver. Something to consider? Skill-player production traditionally declines sharply after age 30, and Sutton turns 31 in October.
**Having money vs spending money**
After witnessing the Denver rushing attack short-circuit once J.K. Dobbins went down, every analyst worth their salt is angling for the Broncos to bring in a premier back to pair with 2nd year player, R.J. Harvey. While visions and dollar signs of Breece Hall or Kenneth Walker get the juices flowing, the better financial choice will be to go back to the draft to plug this hole. The team needs a 1st and 2nd down banger to complement the all-purpose threat of Harvey; there is ZERO need to break open the pocket book for a player that will share touches in Denver's running back by committee.
**“What would you say you do here?”**
A potentially massive bullet was dodged when Davis Webb took a promotion to stay with the team at least through this season. However, it does bring up the valid question of, to do what exactly? Ex-Offensive Coordinator Joe Lombardi didn’t call plays, so it begs the question of what will change with the play-calling, since it’s entirely plausible that Webb will be given extra duties with that promotion. Does that mean Payton is giving up the laminated play-sheet next year? Will it be a partnership? Will they flip a coin to see who will call the game that week? It's anybody’s guess at present.
