It's called "Not For Long" for a reason.

"the cruel fate for the former 5th round pick, who arrived in Denver with some hype about being a dark horse leading rusher for the Broncos coming off a stellar season at Notre Dame."
It was nice knowing you, Audric Estime?
People who punch a clock and work a 40-hour-a-week job don’t have the same problems that professional athletes do. Who can understand the plight of taking $ 10 million over $ 9 million when you are struggling to pay the rent and keep the lights on? But that also means that Joe Office Space can’t comprehend the level of stress of having a job that has dozens of candidates for a handful of positions. Such is life in the NFL, which is also something Audric Estime may not be playing for, if last night's games were any indicator.
That may be the cruel fate for the former 5th round pick, who arrived in Denver with some hype about being a dark horse leading rusher for the Broncos coming off a stellar season at Notre Dame.
In a where-were-you moment, sarcastically, one careless fumble seemingly doomed Estime to wearing cement shoes on the bench. There was that brief stretch at the end of the year where it appeared that the running back had put his fumbling issues behind me and contributed in the playoff push.
And then he was a healthy scratch for that playoff game.
And then the team drafted another physical, bigger back in R.J. Harvey
And then the team signed another physical, bigger back in J.K. Dobbins.
And then whispers of “pouting” in camp amidst playing with the 3rd and 4th team, allegedly. Although the broadcast team DID dance around that topic a bit last night.
Now we arrive at the sad reality of professional sports, and especially the NFL. Loyalty preached is rarely rewarded. Who knows if anything would’ve been different for Estime had he not fumbled that one time, in that one preseason game. For whatever reason, valid or wondering out loud, Estime has never quite found his footing in Denver. You feel it when Estime slips at the wrong moment right before he would be able to break off a big run, or takes the short, tough, run instead of bouncing it outside, something between the team and the player isn't meshing.
A recent 5th-round pick being cut is a bit of a surprise, but it’s not unheard of either. But if any front office did choose to move in that direction, it’s a CLEAR move to cut one's losses as soon as possible. It’s fair to say that one bad play shouldn’t define Estime. But if we believe in the phrase that “all is fair in love and war” (wonder who wrote that, it’s nice), they should also include NFL football.
